HOT ROD DIESEL 4X4

Ballast
  1. Maximum weight: 8,000 pounds.
  2. Front hanging weights are allowed, but must not exceed 60 inches forward from the centerline of the front axle. All weights must be securely fastened.
  3. A tab must be welded to the center of the front axle for measurement.
  4. No weight is allowed in the cab.
Chassis and Suspension
  1. OEM chassis is mandatory. The vehicle must retain OEM frame rails.
  2. Suspension: The upper mounting point for the strut assembly must be in the factory location.
  3. Adjustable caster/camber pillow ball mounts are permitted. The lower control arm may be strengthened, provided the factory mounting points are maintained. Strut tower braces, lower tie bars, sway bars, and limit straps are permitted. Traction bars and devices are permitted but must be bolt-on only. Welds are allowed for attachment to the frame and axle only. Blocked suspension is permitted. Rear suspension may be made solid.
  4. Laddering under the frame for strengthening is permitted.
Wheelbase
  • The maximum wheelbase for Single Cab trucks is 158 inches. Longer trucks may have a maximum wheelbase of 172 inches but must maintain OEM measurements for the body being used.
Battery
  1. Batteries are not allowed in the cab.
  2. A manual battery disconnect switch is required and must be easily accessible and clearly marked.
Body
  1. The body must be an OEM truck body, including the full bed floor. The body must retain the full sheet metal. Aftermarket hoods are permitted.
  2. The complete OEM floor pan is mandatory. The vehicle must maintain a complete firewall. Additional gauges and pillar pods are permitted.
  3. No mud flaps or dirt deflectors.
  4. Flatbeds are allowed but must be manufactured. Homemade beds are not permitted.
Exhaust
  1. All vehicles must be equipped with upward-pointing exhaust located either directly behind the cab or out of the truck hood. If the exhaust runs to the rear of the truck, it must turn up with an elbow.
  2. Four (4) 3/8-inch (Grade 5) bolts must be placed in the horizontal portion of the exhaust pipe(s) as close to the turbo as possible. Bolts must be installed 90 degrees to each other, within one inch of each other.
  3. An exhaust wheel cage made from stainless steel must be bolted or fastened to the exhaust housing as intended by the manufacturer. If the exhaust wheel cage is bolted, a minimum of 8 - 5/16-inch bolts are required to fasten it as designed by the turbo manufacturer.
Safety Equipment
  1. All trucks must have a minimum 6-inch-wide U-joint shield around the rear U-joint, constructed of at least 5/16-inch steel or 3/8-inch aluminum, which will safely contain the U-joint and the end of the driveshaft. All shields must be securely mounted to the vehicle. Any front shaft U-joints visible from the side of the truck must be shielded to contain the U-joint and the end of the driveshaft.
  2. Axle shields are required, made of .060” thickness steel or aluminum. A hole may be cut in one shield to allow operation of the hub lock.
  3. A safety switch (rain cap or guillotine) must shut off air to the diesel engine. The switch will be securely mounted to the back of the vehicle. A 2-inch or larger solid ring must be attached to the end of the switch. The ring must be zip-tied to the switch bracket. The switch must also be operable from the cab while the driver is secured in the vehicle.
  4. A Kevlar-lined containment device (bag or blanket) that completely encloses the intake compressor housing. The bag or blanket must be commercially available from a U.S.-based supplier.
Drive Line
  1. OEM rear and front ends are required. They must have come factory in a 1-ton or smaller vehicle.
  2. OEM transmission and transfer case must be used. They must have come factory in a 1-ton or smaller vehicle.
  3. Non-OEM transmissions are prohibited. Aftermarket torque converters, valve bodies, and internal components are permitted.
  4. An SFI bell housing and/or SFI blow-proof bell housing or an SFI blanket-type shield must be used.
  5. Automatic transmissions must be covered 360 degrees, from the back of the engine block to the tail shaft bolts.
Tires
  1. Tires must be DOT-approved and no larger than 35x12.50 or 315x75 metric.
  2. The factory tire size must be stamped for verification. If the size is removed, the tires will be considered illegal.
  3. No studded tires, tire chains, or alterations to tires are permitted. Bar or terra tires are prohibited.
  4. Dual wheels are prohibited.
Fire Extinguisher
  1. All vehicles must have a 2.5 lb. dry chemical fire extinguisher or a 1 lb. halo extinguisher.
  2. The extinguisher must be securely mounted within reach of the driver.
Fuel
  1. Diesel fuel only.
  2. No propane or nitrous.
  3. Other oxygen enhancers are allowed.
Dress Code
  1. A DOT-approved helmet must be worn and fastened.
  2. A fire coat, fire pants, and leather shoes are required.
Hitch
  1. The hitch must be rigged in all directions. No part of the hitch can exceed 3” above the frame rails and cannot extend forward of the centerline of the rear axle.
  2. No bolts in the hitch; forged pins must be used.
  3. The distance from the point of the hook to the centerline of the rear axle must be no less than 27% of the wheelbase.
  4. The maximum hitch height is 26” with a minimum opening of 3.75” x 3”.
  5. A tab must be welded to the center of the rear axle to assist in measuring.
Engine
  1. Any OEM engine that came in a 1-ton or smaller vehicle from the factory.
  2. The engine must be in the OEM location for the body used.
  3. No aftermarket blocks are permitted.
  4. The cylinder head must be OEM or an OEM replica for the brand of engine. The outside of the cylinder head must measure to factory width and length. No billet heads of any material. The head must retain the factory OEM valve angle. No deck plates are permitted. Side draft and aftermarket intake manifolds are allowed.
  5. A maximum of one P-pump up to P7100 is allowed, with a 13MM plunger limit. Agricultural governors are permitted. The use of multiple high-pressure common rail fuel pumps is legal.
  6. Hand throttles are permitted. They must work in forward motion and have two return springs.
  7. Any turbo is allowed, but it must not exceed a 3.6-inch smooth bore and must be sealed.
  8. Water injection is prohibited. Air-to-air intercoolers and air-to-water intercoolers are permitted. Ice and water must be removed before crossing the scale.
  9. The engine must have a 3/8-inch cable surrounding cylinders #1 and #2 and must pass through the manifold.
